Jhalakathi Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md. Momin Uddin has stressed the need for proper training, technical skills and legal procedures for people planning to work abroad.He said skilled workers can help improve Bangladesh’s image in the international job market while creating more opportunities for overseas employment. He also advised prospective migrants to stay away from dishonest middlemen and use government-approved channels for migration.
The DC made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled “Safe Migration, Skill Development and Employment” at the Jhalakathi Technical Training Centre (TTC) on Monday (September 14).
Md. Momin Uddin said demand for skilled workers is increasing in many countries. Before going abroad, workers should develop the language skills needed in their destination country, gain job-related skills and complete proper technical training, he said.
According to him, skilled workers have better chances of finding good jobs and earning higher wages. Following legal migration procedures can also help protect workers from fraud and harassment.
The seminar discussed safe migration, overseas employment opportunities, technical and professional training, legal migration procedures and the risks of dealing with fraudulent middlemen. Participants were advised to use government-approved institutions and follow the proper procedures when seeking jobs abroad.
The importance of Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) training was also highlighted. A total of 42 workers preparing to go abroad took part in the training and orientation session.
Jhalakathi Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Deputy Director of the Local Government Section at the DC Office Julia Sukaina, and Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md Mostafizur Rahman attended the seminar as special guests.
Engineer Mohammad Shamim Hossain, principal of Jhalakathi TTC, presided over the programme, which was moderated by Abu Bakkar Biswas.
Among others, Jhalakathi Chamber of Commerce President Jayanta Saha, Deshe Bangla Foundation Chairman Md Mizanur Rahman, Wintech Computer proprietor Md Palash Howlader and Star Media proprietor Bidhan Haldar attended the event. Representatives of various industrial enterprises and journalists from print and electronic media were also present.
Before the seminar, the chief guest visited different trade workshops at the TTC and spoke with instructors and students. He stressed the need for quality, job-oriented training that keeps pace with modern technology and advised students on skill development and employment opportunities.
The seminar and training programme started in the morning and continued until 4pm.
