
Four people were killed and at least 8 others injured when a microbus collided head-on with a covered van in Chattogram while returning to Cox’s Bazar after a wedding ceremony.
The accident occurred around 1:45am on Sunday (13 September) at the Crossing intersection in Karnaphuli upazila on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway.
Karnaphuli Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nur Ahmed confirmed the incident.
The deceased were identified as Md Ferdous Alam, 5, Mipta, 17, and microbus driver Munna, 40. The identity of the fourth victim could not be ascertained.
Police said the microbus had left for Cox’s Bazar after its passengers attended a wedding ceremony in the Agrabad area of Chattogram city. When it reached the Crossing intersection, it collided head-on with the covered van coming from the opposite direction. Four people died on the spot and at least 10 others were injured.
On receiving the news, local residents, fire service personnel and police rushed to the scene, rescued the injured and took them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
They were initially believed to be residents of Eidgaon in Cox’s Bazar, but their identities could not be confirmed immediately.
OC Nur Ahmed said the bodies had been recovered and the injured taken to hospital. Police were trying to identify the victims and the injured.
