Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the information on Thursday (September 10).
According to him, Coast Guard Station Bhatiari carried out the operation around 1:00am near Bashbaria Ghat in Sitakunda, Chattogram, following a tip-off.
The Coast Guard team found the fertilizer being loaded from the trucks onto a cargo boat for shipment to Myanmar. They seized 700 sacks of urea fertilizer weighing 35,000 kilograms, worth around Tk 24.5 lakh. Three trucks used to carry the fertilizer were also seized, and two people were detained.
The seized fertilizer and trucks have been kept in custody, while legal action against the detainees is being processed.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said the Coast Guard would continue such operations to prevent smuggling.
