Symbolic PhotoThree children drowned in rainwater accumulated in a field in Dashpara village under Chartarapur Union of Pabna Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Sumi Khatun, 7, daughter of Shimul Mallik, and siblings Khalid Hossain, 8, and Afia Khatun, 6, children of Md Ashraful Islam (Ashraf), all from Dashpara village. They were students of a local kindergarten school.
According to locals, the children went to the field beside their homes to bathe in the rainwater at around 2pm. At one point, one of them drowned. The other two reportedly went into the water while trying to rescue the child and also drowned.
Local residents later rescued the three children and rushed them towards Sujanagar Upazila Health Complex. However, they died on the way to the hospital.
Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tarikul Islam confirmed the incident, saying police were sent to the scene after receiving the news.
