The Prime Minister has assured that the country's industries and factories will be supplied with electricity and gas 'as before' from Tuesday night, said FBCCI Administrator Md. Fazlul Hoque.
He told reporters after the Prime Minister's nearly three-hour meeting with representatives of 21 business organizations at the Secretariat on Monday.
Fazlul Hoque said that the Prime Minister said that from tomorrow (Tuesday) night, God willing, we will be able to return to the state of gas and electricity that we were in before the new crisis that has arisen. We think this is the biggest achievement and the biggest news of rilief from today's meeting.
Through this, not only will our ongoing crisis be resolved, but a detailed outline of how the increased demand for gas and electricity that will be needed for the development of industries and the implementation of new investments in the future will be met has also been presented here, he said.
Fazlul Hoque said, "It is not that they presented the matter, and we just came out after hearing it. The reason was presented for half an hour, but our meeting was scheduled for two hours. That meeting was extended to three hours."
After the meeting, Prime Minister's Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin said, "Today, through this unprecedented arrangement, important issues related to business, employment growth, industrialization in Bangladesh, especially electricity, gas, energy and mineral resources, were discussed in detail."
He said, the State Minister for Power and Energy has already given a PowerPoint presentation and the government's two-year, five-year and 10-year plans for electricity and gas—that is, short-term, medium-term and long-term—have been presented in detail."
Highlighting the government's plans for gas, Mahdi Amin said, "If we take gas as an example, we already know that we have a dependency due to having two FSRUs and one of them has been broken for a long time."
He said, "The current government is not only repairing it, but also working towards an effective goal to increase the number of FSRUs in the coming days, initially to three and then two more—that is, to five. Efforts are being made to connect the third FSRU before the start of 2028, through which our gas problem will be solved."
Representatives of 21 organizations including FBCCI, ICCB, BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA participated in the meeting. The commerce minister and the prime minister's financial advisor were also present in the meeting.
