Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has accused most government officials of being involved in bribery and corruption, saying that most of them are thieves, and that their alleged graft and plunder have made life unbearable for ordinary people.
‘Most government officials are thieves. They engage in various forms of bribery and plunder, making life unbearable for the common people,’ Hafiz Uddin said while addressing an exchange meeting with leaders and activists of the BNP and its allied and affiliated organisations at the Tazumuddin Upazila Parishad auditorium in Bhola on Sunday.
Turning to the previous Awami League government, Hafiz Uddin accused its leaders, ministers and prime minister of ruining the country through widespread looting.
He also referred to former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, saying the former minister had accumulated hundreds of properties abroad.
‘A state (cabinet) minister from that era, Javed, was found to own 360 houses in London alone,’ Hafiz Uddin said. ‘He also possesses properties in Dubai and the United States, all acquired using money belonging to the people of Bangladesh, your money and mine.’
Hafiz Uddin Ahmed also alleged that several people associated with the former ruling party still occupy positions within the administration.
‘Many of their associates still hold positions within the administration. That is why the true picture often fails to reach the public,’ he said.
