Seven people have been suspended in connection with the escape of a female prisoner from Kashimpur Women's Central Jail in Gazipur.
The escaped prisoner was identified as Rimpa, 21, daughter of Md Hasan from the Raipur area under Gangni police station in Meherpur. She was serving a three-month sentence in a CR case filed with Dhanmondi Police Station in Dhaka.
Assistant Inspector General of Prisons (Development) Md Jannat ul-Farhad confirmed the incident, saying three matrons and four prison guards responsible for the jail had been temporarily suspended.
He said an investigation was underway to determine whether the jail superintendent or jailer had shown negligence or failed in their duties. Further action would be taken if evidence was found, he added.
Officer-in-Charge of Konabari Police Station Md Iftekhar Hossain said the prison authorities filed a case with the police station on Friday over the escape.
The escape was discovered on Thursday afternoon when the prisoner's headcount did not match during a routine count.
