Bangladesh sent 12 letters to India to stop push-ins at border: Shama Obaed

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has said that Bangladesh has sent 12 to 13 diplomatic letters to India seeking an end to alleged “push-in” incidents along the border.

Speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, she said that the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been strongly resisting such attempts along the frontier.

“The BSF’s attempts at push-ins are being firmly resisted by the BGB. Any attempt to push people in without following proper procedures is unacceptable,” she said.

The state minister added that there is a legal process for repatriating undocumented individuals and India must follow that procedure.

She also warned that the issue of push-ins could affect efforts to improve bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.

In response to growing concerns, additional BGB personnel have recently been deployed across 26 border districts to prevent illegal entry attempts.

Troops are reportedly working in four shifts, maintaining round-the-clock vigilance, with support from local communities.

Meanwhile, a 57th director general-level border conference between BGB and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) began in New Delhi on Monday, where issues such as illegal push-ins, border killings of Bangladeshis, and broader border management are expected to be discussed.
