Bagerhat Theater and the recitation organization Shobdokolpodrum jointly organized an evening of poetry and drama at the Studio Theater auditorium of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday (June 5) at 6:40 PM.
The event captivated poetry and theater enthusiasts with a diverse lineup. It featured group recitation productions titled Charyapad and Banglar Mukh, a solo recitation segment of regional poems titled Piriter Purnimar Chand, and an audio drama adaptation of selected excerpts from Rabindranath Tagore's timeless play, Dakghar. Produced by Shobdokolpodrum, the Charyapad segment featured performances by Laila Akhter, Nilufa Yasmin Nila, Prottasha Binte Shahin, and Poli Howladar.
Meanwhile, the regional poetry recitation, Piriter Purnimar Chand, was performed by Luna Afroza, Sheikh Halima Farhana Mitu, Heera Akhter, Rumana Haque Rita, Shorbori Dey Ratri, Tushar Kanti Roy, Joli Khatun, Mimha Binte Munir, Ronita Sarkar, Poli Howlader, Nilufa Yasmin Nila, Laila Akhter, and Ismail Hossain Nayan. The recitation compilation Banglar Mukh showcased the works of literary stalwarts including Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Jibanananda Das, Shamsur Rahman, Syed Shamsul Haque, Abu Zafar Obaidullah, Protul Mukhopadhyay, Muhammad Nurul Huda, Humayun Azad, and Maruful Islam.
Performers for this segment included Luna Afroza, Shorbori Dey Ratri, Joli Khatun, Tushar Kanti Roy, Sheikh Halima Farhana Mitu, and Heera Akhter. Najmul Ahsan compiled and directed all the recitation productions.
A major highlight of the evening was the audio drama presentation of Tagore's symbolic masterpiece, Dakghar (The Post Office). Centered around a sick child named Amal, the play profoundly explores themes of spiritual liberation, the yearning for human freedom, and universal humanity. The cast of the audio drama included Nawairah Rashid Riddhie (Sudha), Mehrima Naomi (Amal), Tabedar-E-Rasul Channu (Madhav Dutta), Najmul Ahsan (Kabiraj), Aktaruzzaman Jhulon (Thakurda), H M Al Mamun (Doiwala), Apu Ahmed (Prohori), and Takdir Abid Poni (Morol).
Najmul Ahsan also directed the play. The technical and management team included Apu Ahmed (stage management), Maruf and Linsa (lighting design), Bonnya Debnath (music), Debu Pal (background score), Liton Roy (sound direction), and Rajib Ahmed and S.K. Saiful Islam(visuals/cinematography). Mukitul Kabir coordinated the overall event. The cultural evening was attended by a large gathering of cultural enthusiasts, media personnel, and lovers of theater and poetry.
