Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman has left Dhaka for Moscow on a three-day official visit to Russia.
The minister departed on Sunday (7 June) morning and is scheduled to return home on 9 June.
Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir is accompanying him during the visit.
The trip marks Dr Rahman’s first overseas visit since his election as President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Diplomatic sources said the visit is expected to focus not only on strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Russia but also on a range of multilateral and international issues.
On the second day of the visit, Dr Rahman is scheduled to hold bilateral talks in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Discussions are expected to cover areas of mutual interest and avenues for enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
The foreign minister is also likely to meet several senior Russian government officials for courtesy calls and exchanges of views during his stay.
