Dhaka Hosts Industrial Packaging Expo 2026 To Boost Export Potential

The three-day “Dhaka Industrial Packaging Expo 2026” began on Thursday at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) in Agargaon, Dhaka, bringing together local and international stakeholders from the packaging and processing industries.

The expo has been jointly organised by the Bangladesh Flexible Packaging Industries Association (BFPIA) and ExpoNet Exhibition Pvt. Ltd., with Tampaco Group as the co-sponsor. Organisers said the event aims to create an international business platform focused on packaging technology, sustainable manufacturing, energy efficiency and strengthening industrial backward linkage industries.

Commerce, Industries, Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, MP, attended the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest. He said entrepreneurs would need to move forward with clear and effective plans to support the growth of the packaging industry, adding that the government was ready to provide necessary policy support for the sector.

“The government wants the packaging sector to expand further, create new jobs, and contribute more to foreign currency earnings by helping Bangladeshi products reach international markets,” he said.

Safius Sami Alamgir, president of BFPIA, presented the keynote paper at the event. He said the country’s packaging industry, currently valued at around Tk 8,000 crore, has created employment for nearly 50,000 people, while local companies are meeting around 80 percent of domestic demand.

According to him, the packaging sector is no longer merely a supporting industry; rather, it has become one of the key drivers of Bangladesh’s industrialisation, export capability and modern consumer economy. He also said the sector could emerge as a new export frontier for Bangladesh by replicating the manufacturing excellence demonstrated by the country’s readymade garment industry.

Safius Sami Alamgir further said ensuring ease of doing business, policy consistency and fair taxation would help the local packaging industry become more competitive in the global market. Controlling packaging costs would also help stabilise the prices of essential consumer goods and medicines, as the sector is directly linked to the broader economy, he added.

Special guests at the event included Md Abdur Rahim Khan, additional secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), and Mohammad Hasan Arif, vice-chairman and chief executive officer of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). Rashidul Haque, managing director of ExpoNet Exhibition Pvt. Ltd., delivered the welcome address.

According to organisers, more than 130 companies from 12 countries are participating in this year’s expo. Around 320 stalls are showcasing products and services related to packaging, printing, processing and industrial technologies. More than 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the event over the three days.
