The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast thunderstorms and gusty winds in 18 districts, including the capital, Dhaka, by noon.
Authorities advised river ports in the affected regions to hoist cautionary signals as a safety measure.
In a weather bulletin valid from 5:00am to 1:00pm on Thursday (7 May), the office warned that temporary gusty or squally winds from the west or north-west might lash several regions.
These areas include Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Jashore, Kushtia, Faridpur, Dhaka, Cumilla, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet.
The department expects wind speeds to reach between 45 and 60 kilometres per hour, accompanied by rain or thundershowers. Consequently, river ports in these districts must display cautionary signal number one to alert vessels of the potential danger.
