Motijheel Hawkers Union Holds Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Motijheel Hawkers Union was held on Monday at the 8th floor of Gauche Pak Bipani Bitan Bhaban, located within the union’s 20-storey commercial building in Motijheel.

The meeting was presided over by the organization’s President, Bir Muktijoddha S. M. Nurul Islam. General Secretary Md. Abdul Haque presented the annual report and income-expenditure statement. Chief Advisor Bir Muktijoddha Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman was also present.

The AGM approved the annual report and financial statements covering activities from 2020 to 2025. Members also endorsed the completion of the remaining construction and finishing work of the union’s commercial building.

A unanimous decision was taken to approve the agreement signed with A.B. Construction and to finalize the sale of the 18th floor of the building to the Noakhali Club for organizational needs. The meeting also approved arrangements for the next annual election of the union.

Additionally, a proposal to cancel the membership of former member Abdul Halim Montu for activities contrary to the union’s constitution was passed. The meeting further decided to distribute the remaining floor space equally among members who have not yet received shop allocations. Members who have already received shops will not be allocated additional space above.

Chief Guest’s Remarks

Md. Nurul Islam Khan Nasim, General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Workers' Party, attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest.

In his speech, he thanked the union for organizing the AGM in compliance with the Bangladesh Labor Act and for presenting, reviewing, and approving the annual activities and financial accounts transparently. He expressed hope that the union would continue its transparent operations in the future.

He also recalled the memory of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and praised the leadership of the union for properly managing the 20-storey commercial building constructed on government land allocated during the tenure of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia for the welfare of hawkers and small traders of Motijheel.

He assured continued support from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman for the development of the union.

Among others present were Md. Khorshed Alam, Youth Affairs Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Workers' Party Central Executive Committee, and Md. Iqbal Hossain (Bablu), former President of the Nationalist Youth Party, Motijheel Police Station.

On behalf of the Motijheel Hawkers Union, the leadership expressed gratitude to all guests, national and local leaders, and union members for making the annual general meeting a success.
