Bangladeshi mountaineer Nurunnaher Nimni has become the third Bangladeshi woman to successfully summit Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak.
According to the Bangladesh Mountaineering and Trekking Club (BMITC), she reached the 29,032-foot summit at 5:24am Nepal time on Wednesday, raising the national flag at the world’s highest peak.
Nimni began her journey from Dhaka on April 11 and reached the Everest base camp after a challenging expedition. She initially reached Camp IV on 23 May but had to descend due to adverse weather conditions.
She resumed her final ascent on May 25 when conditions improved and completed the climb early Wednesday morning.
Nepal on Wednesday congratulated Bangladeshi mountaineer Nurunnahar Nimni on successfully scaling Mount Everest.
"Hearty congratulations to Bangladeshi mountaineer Nurunnahar Nimni on successfully scaling Mount Everest this morning," said the Embassy of Nepal.
"We wish her continued success in all her future endeavors," it said.
On 19 May 2012, Nishat Majumdar became the first Bangladeshi woman to summit Mount Everest, with Wasfia Nazreen following just days later on 26 May the same year.
After a 14-year gap for Bangladeshi women climbers on Everest, Nurunnaher Nimni has now reached the summit, becoming the only Bangladeshi climber to achieve the feat so far in 2026.
