Hasina ordered arson attacks to discredit uprising: ICT prosecutor

Published : Wednesday, 24 September, 2025 at 4:12 PM  Count : 65

Ousted dictator Sheikh Hasina ordered arson attacks on key establishments across the capital during last year’s anti-fascist uprising and pinned the blame on anti-government protesters, the ICT prosecution team told judges on Wednesday.

During the uprising, Setu Bhaban, BTV head office, and two metro stations were torched by unidentified assailants.

Hasina ordered the torching of some establishments in the capital, potentially by her party activists and law enforcement agencies, but it is not clear if the instructions were executed the way she had planned, the prosecution said during a hearing at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

After the Setu Bhaban was set on fire, Hasina expressed her surprise to subordinates, saying the accomplices were torching facilities she had no plan for, while leaving her intended targets intact.
