Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has officially inaugurated the newly constructed 'July Memorial' at the historic Osmani Udyan in the capital.
On Monday at 10 am, the Prime Minister officially inaugurated the modernized garden and the newly constructed 'July Memorial' in its premises.
The historic Osmani Udyan was opened to the city residents on Monday after a long time after the modernization at a cost of about 50 crore taka.
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam and Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam were present on the occasion.
Located at the junction of old and new Dhaka, the 23-acre Osmani Udyan has been redeveloped by the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) into a modern, environment-friendly public space.
The renovated park features a lake, fountains, walking paths, a modern library, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, improved lighting and security facilities, as well as a rainwater harvesting system and expanded greenery.
A July Uprising Memorial has also been built at the centre of the park to preserve the memory of those killed during the 2024 mass uprising.
The names of the martyrs have been engraved on steel plates, while images depicting the movement have been permanently installed inside the memorial’s railings. Symbolic graves have also been placed in front of the memorial.
The park has been designed to provide residents with a space for walking, recreation and spending time with their families.
