Collected PhotoThe government has increased bus fares by 17 paisa per kilometre on long-distance routes as well as in Dhaka and other cities following a rise in fuel prices.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges on Tuesday.
With the new rates, fares for long-distance buses have risen from Tk2.23 to Tk2.40 per kilometre.
In Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas, the fare has increased from Tk2.53 to Tk2.70 per kilometre.
The decision came a day after the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association proposed a 20-paisa-per-kilometre increase at a meeting with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on Monday afternoon.
