Online applications for admission to Class XI for the 2026-27 academic year will begin on Wednesday and continue until 10 September.
Classes are scheduled to begin on 23 September after completion of the admission process.
The Education Ministry published the admission policy on 24 August.
According to the policy, students can submit their applications from 2 September until 8pm on 10 September. No selection process or admission test will be held, with admission based solely on students’ SSC and equivalent examination results.
Seven percent of seats in Class XI have been reserved under various quotas, while the remaining 93% will be open to all students on the basis of merit.
Eligibility and group selection
Students who passed the SSC and equivalent examinations in the year of publication of the results or in either of the previous two consecutive years will be eligible to apply online.
Students who passed examinations under foreign boards will be eligible to apply after their certificates are assessed for equivalence by the Dhaka Education Board.
Students who passed from the science group can apply for science, humanities or business studies. Students from the humanities and business studies groups can apply for their own group as well as the other group.
Students from all groups can apply for Islamic studies, home economics and music.
Students from the technical and madrasa education boards will also be eligible for admission to corresponding groups under the general education boards, in accordance with the policy.
Quota and merit
Of the total seats in each college, 93% will remain open to general students on the basis of merit. Five per cent will be reserved for children of freedom fighters and martyred freedom fighters.
Another 1% will be reserved for children of officials and employees of the Education Ministry, and 1% for children of officials and employees of departments and agencies under the ministry. The 2% quota will apply to institutions in metropolitan areas, divisional cities and district headquarters.
If eligible candidates are not available under any quota, those seats will be filled from the merit list.
The quota system will apply only to the 2026-27 academic year.
In case of equal GPA, merit ranking will be determined on the basis of total marks. For science students, if the total marks are also equal, marks in general mathematics, higher mathematics or biology will be considered.
If the tie remains, marks in English, physics and chemistry will be considered successively. For humanities and business studies students, marks in English, mathematics and Bangla will be considered in case of a tie.
Students of school-and-college institutions will receive priority for admission to their own institutions, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
Admission fees
For MPO-listed institutions, the maximum session and admission fees have been set at Tk5,000 in Dhaka metropolitan areas for both Bangla- and English-medium students. The limits are Tk3,000 in other metropolitan areas, Tk2,000 in district headquarters and Tk1,500 in upazilas and rural areas.
For non-MPO or partially MPO-listed institutions, the maximum fees in Dhaka metropolitan areas are Tk7,500 for Bangla-medium and Tk8,500 for English-medium students.
In other metropolitan areas, the fees are Tk5,000 for Bangla-medium and Tk6,000 for English-medium students. In district areas, they are Tk3,000 and Tk4,000 respectively, while in upazilas and rural areas they are Tk2,500 and Tk3,000.
Students will have to pay Tk340 to the education board during initial confirmation of admission. The amount includes Tk142 as a registration fee, Tk50 sports fee, Tk10 BNCC fee, Tk15 Rover/Ranger fee, Tk16 Red Crescent fee, Tk7 science and technology fee, and Tk100 for teachers' welfare and retirement benefits.
The Education Ministry said no institution would be allowed to issue transfer certificates or admit students without permission from the relevant education board.
It also warned that admission to unauthorised sections or subjects could lead to the cancellation of an institution's permission to conduct classes, recognition or MPO status.
A total of 1,829,485 students sat for this year's SSC and equivalent examinations, of whom 1,138,877 passed. Nearly 700,000 students failed.
As a result, more than half of the available Class XI seats are expected to remain vacant this year.
