Heavy rainfall warning in 6 divisions

Published : Sunday, 5 July, 2026 at 4:41 PM  Count : 14

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in six divisions across the country, including Dhaka, over the next 72 hours due to the influence of a monsoon depression located in the northwest Bay of Bengal.

The forecast covers the 72 hours from 1pm on Sunday, according to a heavy rainfall warning signed by BMD Meteorologist Dr Md Omar Faruq.

The notification said that a monsoon depression is currently located in the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjacent north Odisha-West Bengal coast.

Due to this, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in some places in the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions during the period.

The warning also said that due to this continuous rainfall, temporary waterlogging may occur at some places in the Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas.

In addition, the BMD warned that the rain may also trigger landslides in some places in the Chattogram Hill Tracts.

The BMD had previously forecast an increase in rain as a well-marked low in the Bay of Bengal turned into a depression.

Meteorologist Md Bazlur Rashid told bdnews24.com: "As a result [of the depression], the rain will increase. Rain is starting to increase in the southern region from today. It will continue to rain from the 12th to the 13th."
