Engineer Aminul Hasib of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) is preparing to initiate legal action under the country’s cyber laws, alleging that a coordinated online smear campaign has been launched against him through various news portals and social media platforms.
According to sources close to him, the circulating allegations are false, misleading, and intended to damage the professional reputation and personal integrity of a government official.
The sources said that his recent promotion was carried out strictly in line with government rules, seniority, professional qualifications, and established administrative procedures. They added that claims of political influence or personal lobbying behind the promotion have no credible documentary evidence.
They also stated that many of the allegations shared on social media and certain online platforms rely on anonymous sources and are not supported by any official investigation report, court ruling, or decision from the relevant authorities. Publishing such claims without verification has created public confusion and unfairly damaged the officer’s reputation.
According to the sources, any allegation against a public official should be addressed through proper legal and administrative channels. They argued that publishing accusations of corruption, bribery, political ties, or money laundering without verified evidence goes against the principles of responsible journalism.
The sources further claimed that the ongoing campaign has caused reputational harm to Aminul Hasib and his family. As a result, legal steps are being taken against those allegedly responsible for spreading false and defamatory information.
It has been learned that preparations to file a case under the applicable cyber security law have been completed, and the case may be submitted to the appropriate court either today or tomorrow morning.
The sources also stressed that responsible journalism requires verification from reliable sources and obtaining comments from the individuals and concerned authorities before publication.
Meanwhile, the same sources claimed that two individuals within CAAB have been identified for their alleged involvement in spreading the defamatory content, and they may be named as accused in the upcoming legal proceedings.
