A policy decision has been made to establish four police stations, six investigation centres, and two police lines under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to strengthen law and order in the Purbachal New Town Project developed by the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK).
Plans are also underway to set up three deputy commissioner (DC) offices, 41 police boxes, and an independent DMP division.
The announcement was made by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir while inaugurating a police camp in Purbachal on Wednesday.
The IGP said a policy decision has already been taken to establish the four police stations, six investigation centres, and two police lines in the Purbachal New Town Project area. Work is also progressing to establish three DC offices, while the process of setting up 41 police boxes across different sectors of the township is underway.
He added that the entire Purbachal New Town Project will be brought under the jurisdiction of the DMP and formed into a separate DMP division, similar to the force's existing divisions. The new division will operate under the supervision of an Additional Police Commissioner, who will oversee law and order in the area.
The IGP further said that a proposal to create 6,524 police posts for the Purbachal New Town Project is currently under consideration.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed and other senior police officials.
