The National Vitamin A Plus Campaign began across the country on Sunday (June 24), aiming to provide Vitamin A capsules to nearly 24.036 million children aged between six and 59 months.
The campaign was held from 8AM to 4PM under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with support from UNICEF.
Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain formally inaugurated the campaign at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Convention Centre in the capital's Shahbagh by administering Vitamin A capsules to children.
Children aged 6 to 11 months were given a blue Vitamin A capsule, while those aged 12 to 59 months received a high-dose red capsule.
Around 120,000 permanent centres and 500 temporary centres, including at bus terminals, railway stations and ferry terminals, were set up nationwide to distribute the capsules. Children who missed receiving the capsule on Sunday were allowed to collect it the following day from their respective upazila health complexes. A special four-day campaign will also be conducted in 58 remote upazilas across 12 districts.
The Directorate General of Health Services urged parents and guardians to take their children to the nearest campaign centre within the scheduled time.
Bangladesh introduced Vitamin A supplementation in 1973. The campaign was launched in its current form in 2003 and resumed this year under the Institute of Public Health Nutrition after remaining suspended since March 2025.
