Cooperation agreement on joint Bachelor’s program between DU and Yunnan University signed

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam returns home today June 27, 2026 after a 5-day official visit in China.

During this visit, a cooperation agreement on joint Bachelor’s program in Bengali Language between Dhaka University (DU) and Yunnan University, China was signed on June 26, 2026. Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam and President of Yunnan University Prof. Ma Wenhui signed the agreement on behalf of their respective university.

Under this agreement, Dhaka University will provide cooperation in effectively enhancing the Bengali listening, speaking, reading and writing proficiency of undergraduate students majoring in Bengali at the School of Foreign Language of Yunnan University. Besides, the two universities will cooperate each other in teaching and training of the undergraduate Bengali language program. In order to improve Yunnan University students’ proficiency in the use of the Bengali language and to meet the relevant academic requirements, the two universities will carry out teaching cooperation in accordance with the curriculum schedule of Yunnan University’s Bengali language program. During the first semester of the third academic year, Yunnan University shall send students to the Institute of Modern Languages of Dhaka University for one semester of study. Dhaka University will conduct academic assessments and evaluations of the students sent by Yunnan University and will issue Certificates of Completion upon the successful completion of their studies.

It may be mentioned that, DU VC Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam attended ‘Chinese Bridge’ program at Yunnan University and delivered lecture at the opening ceremony of the program.

DU VC in his lecture said, ‘the relationship between Bangladesh and China is one rooted in centuries of cultural and economic exchange, bound by mutual respect and a shared vision for the future. In this rapidly changing world, education serves as the most vital bridge between our peoples. It is not merely about the transfer of knowledge; it is about fostering mutual understanding, building lasting friendships and shaping a future generation that values international cooperation. The ‘Chinese Bridge’ program embodies this spirit perfectly creating pathways for students and educators to learn, share grow together.’

During the visit DU VC also took part in different high level meetings and hold bilateral & multilateral talks with the authorities of Yunnan University for further strengthening on-going joint collaborative academic and research programs between DU and Yunnan University.
