A women-only bus service, branded “Pink Bus”, has been launched in Dhaka today to provide safer and more comfortable public transport for women.
Road Transport and Bridges, Railway and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam inaugurated the service at the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) Tejgaon Bus Depot in the afternoon.
According to the BRTC, the buses will start regular passenger services on designated routes in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Bogura and Chattogram from tomorrow.
The buses will be operated by women drivers and conductors.
Of the 14 buses introduced under the initiative, 10 will operate in Dhaka and adjoining areas, while two each will run in Bogura and Chattogram.

Of the 10 routes in Dhaka and adjoining areas, a Motijheel depot bus will run from Natun Bazar (known as Coca-Cola) to Gulistan via Uttar Badda, Madhya Badda, Merul Badda, Rampura, Abul Hotel, Malibagh, Kakrail and Paltan.
Another will run from Taltola to Motijheel via Khilgaon Rail Gate, Basabo, Buddhist Temple, Mugda, Kamalapur Railway Station, Arambagh, Shapla Chattar and the Secretariat.
A Jatrabari depot bus will run from Demra Staff Quarter to GPO via Janapath Mor at Sayedabad, Wari near Baldha Garden, Gulistan, Paltan, the Secretariat and Matsya Bhaban.
The Kalyanpur depot will run a Mirpur-10-Motijheel service, and the Mirpur depot two -- Mirpur-Motijheel and Mirpur-12-Motijheel.
