Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Bangladesh Prof. Dr. Jalil Rahimi Jahan Abadi called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam today August 19, 2026 at the latter’s office of the university. He was accompanied by Mahdi Molaee Arani, Cultural Consellor of the Embassy of Iran in Bangladesh.
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interests and exchanged views regarding various issues including the possibilities of strengthening ongoing joint collaborative academic and research programs as well as language and cultural exchange programs among the University of Dhaka and different universities in Iran. They also discussed regarding development and expansion of ongoing Persian Language programs at DU. They stressed the need for undertaking more collaborative programs in different fields including science and technology, solar technology, medicine and pharmacy among Dhaka University and various Iranian universities. Holding of cultural event at DU under the joint auspices of the University of Dhaka and the Iranian Embassy in Bangladesh was also discussed in the meeting. They emphasized on exchange of more Visiting Professors, faculties, researchers and students among DU and Iranian universities.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam said, an excellent historical, social, educational and cultural relationship and ties between Bangladesh and Iran have been prevailing for a long years. These friendly ties between the two countries will be further strengthened in the days to come through different academic and cultural activities, he hoped.
Iranian Ambassador Prof. Dr. Jalil Rahimi Jahan Abadi expressed his willingness to appoint Iranian Professors at different departments and institutes of Dhaka University in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Iran to enhance academic and research collaboration.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam thanked the Iranian Ambassador for his visit to and keen interest in undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programs with DU.
Earlier, the Iranian envoy attended the fresher’s reception and farewell program of DU Persian Language and Literature Department at TSC auditorium as the guest of honor.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of DU Prof. Dr. Abdus Salam addressed the event as chief guest. Chairman of DU Persian Language and Literature Department Dr. Md. Mumit Al Rashid presided over the program while Dean of the Faculty of Arts of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarker and Cultural Consellor of the Embassy of Iran in Bangladesh Mahdi Molaee Arani addressed it as special guests. Convener of organizing committee Prof. Dr. K M Saiful Islam Khan delivered welcome address while Member Secretary Mehedi Hasan gave vote of thanks.
