The government on Thursday allocated over Tk1,000 crore for the Farmers’ Card programme in the proposed national budget for fiscal year 2026-27, as part of one of its key election pledges.
“We have allocated a total of Tk1,62,50 lakh crore for 42.50 lakh farmers under 100 upazilas across the country,” Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury made the announcement in his budget speech in the parliament.
Landless and marginal farmers will receive cash assistance of Tk2,500 once every year through the Farmers’ Card, the finance minister said, adding that the government is working to transform the country’s agriculture sector into the main driving force for the national prosperity.
