A video has gone viral on social media where two women were seen being robbed at machete-point outside their home in Dhaka's Mohammadpur.

According to police, the incident occurred around 3:00am on Saturday on Noorjahan Road as the victims returned to Dhaka after the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.

The footage shows the two women standing in front of their house after getting off a rickshaw, with the puller standing nearby. Suddenly, two men approach them, one wielding a machete. The suspect, clad in a lungi, a black T-shirt, and a cap, threatens the women with the weapon before snatching their luggage, bags, and other belongings.

The victims had arrived in Dhaka's Shyamoli by bus from Thakurgaon, said Mohammadpur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Rakibuzzaman Rakib.

"They then took a rickshaw to their home, only to be targeted by muggers right outside their gate," he said.

Police have identified one of the suspects involved in the robbery.

"We have identified one person involved in the incident and are trying to arrest him," Inspector Rakibuzzaman said.
