The repatriation of Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims has begun following the completion of this year’s pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Hajj portal bulletin issued on Saturday (30 May) night, 37 Bangladeshi pilgrims have died so far in Saudi Arabia during this year’s Hajj, including 24 men and 13 women. Of the deaths, 27 occurred in Makkah and 10 in Madinah.
Meanwhile, the bulletin reported that a total of 6,175 pilgrims had returned to Bangladesh on 15 return flights by 3:00am on Sunday. Of them, 416 travelled under the government scheme and 5,759 under private arrangements.
The first return flight departed Jeddah on 30 May carrying 445 pilgrims and landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka later that day.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Saudia and Flynas have so far operated 15 return flights.
Return flights will continue until 30 June.
