Barrister Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar, a former acting president of Bangladesh, former speaker of the Parliament, Bangladesh Nationalist Party National Standing Committee member and a veteran politician, died in Dhaka on early Sunday.
He was 96 and was undergoing treatment at a specialised hospital in Shyamoli, Dhaka.
He breathed his last at about 4:20am, according to his son Nawshad Zamir, a lawyer and a lawmaker.
His first janaza will be held at Takwa Mosque in Dhanmondi.
The Supreme Court announced that all courts of both the divisions would remain closed for the second half of the day, with Chamber Court proceedings suspended, in honour of Jamiruddin Sircar.
