Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday directed that ongoing development projects under the Local Government Division must be implemented quickly, cost-effectively and in a people-friendly manner.
He said public welfare is the core objective of all government development activities, and not a single taka of public money should be wasted.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a review meeting on the progress of various development projects implemented by the Local Government Division and city corporations at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Thursday.
He said every development project is undertaken for the benefit of the people and financed by public funds. Therefore, transparency, accountability and timeliness must be ensured in project implementation, while keeping costs at a rational level.
The minister further said development activities enhance the government’s image, but any irregularity or negligence can damage the reputation of the entire ministry.
He urged officials and project directors to act with greater responsibility.
The minister also stressed completing projects within the stipulated timeframe and adopting modern and sustainable planning to improve the quality of public services.

The meeting was chaired by Secretary of the Local Government Division Md Shahidul Hasan and attended by senior officials of the ministry, representatives of different city corporations and project directors.
Detailed discussions were held on the progress of ongoing projects, expenditure management and future work plans.
