Bangladesh Railway has started advance ticket sales for Eid-ul-Azha travel to ensure a smoother journey for holidaymakers heading home. Assuming Eid will be celebrated on 28 May, advance train ticket sales began on Wednesday.
Today (13 May), tickets for train journeys on 23 May are being sold. Railway authorities said all tickets will be sold online for the convenience of passengers.
According to the schedule, ticket sales for trains operating in the western region began at 8:00am, while tickets for eastern region trains will go on sale at 2:00pm.
Under the special Eid operational plan, advance tickets for intercity trains for the five days ahead of Eid will be sold in phases. Tickets for 24 May will be sold on 14 May, tickets for 25 May on 15 May, tickets for 26 May on 16 May, and tickets for 27 May on 17 May.
According to the railway’s policy, each passenger will be allowed to purchase advance tickets only once and can buy a maximum of four tickets at a time. These advance tickets will also be non-refundable.
Considering passenger demand, 25 percent of total seats on the day of travel — excluding higher-class seats — will be sold as standing tickets at station counters.
Meanwhile, the sale dates for tickets for 28, 29 and 30 May will be determined depending on the sighting of the Eid moon.
