Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday inaugurated Police Week 2026 through the annual parade ceremony held at the Rajarbagh Police Lines ground in the capital.
The four-day event began with the theme, “Amar Police, Amar Desh, Sobar Age Bangladesh” (My Police, My Country, Bangladesh First), and will continue until 13 May.
The Prime Minister inspected the colourful and disciplined parade participated in by various police contingents and flag-bearing units. He also took the salute while riding in an open jeep.
Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar led this year’s annual police parade as parade commander.
This marks the first Police Week under the BNP-led government following its landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary election.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived at the venue at around 9:00am, where he was received by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Public Security Division Monjur Morshed Chowdhury, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir.
Cabinet members, lawmakers, senior government officials, additional inspectors general of police, metropolitan police commissioners, range DIGs, district police superintendents and other distinguished guests attended the ceremony.
The national anthem was performed at the beginning of the programme.
