The United States has granted Bangladesh a 60-day waiver to purchase refined petroleum products or oil from Russia.
The US State Department formally informed Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the decision on 11 April, according to a report by The Business Standard.
Officials from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division said the waiver, which took effect on 11 April, will remain valid until 9 June.
Earlier, on 12 March, the US Treasury Department had provided a 30-day waiver for transactions involving Russian crude oil and petroleum products, which expired on April 11.
However, that license applied only to cargo shipments loaded on or before 12 March. It was mainly intended to allow the clearance of consignments that were already in transit.
