Sports to be made compulsory from class IV: State Minister

State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque on Sunday said the government is set to make sports compulsory from the fourth grade starting the next academic year.

Responding to a question of Zahidul Islam, a Member of Parliament elected from Chattogram-16 at parliament, the Minister said the initiative is part of the ruling party’s election manifesto.

“Initially, the programme will feature seven sporting events with plans to gradually add more disciplines over time,” he added.

The State Minister said the government aims to give equal importance to sports alongside academic studies to ensure the overall development of students.

The move is intended to reduce children’s dependence on digital devices and encourage them to engage more in physical activities on the field, he said.

He expressed hope that the initiative would have a positive impact on the physical and mental well-being of students.
