The physical condition of Mirza Abbas, a standing committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and political adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has improved somewhat, his son said.
Speaking to reporters, Mirza Yasir Abbas said the second round of his father’s brain surgery was successfully completed on Friday night. However, he added that preparations are in place to take him to Singapore if his condition stabilizes.
The first round of surgery was carried out earlier in the afternoon the same day.
According to the medical board at Evercare Hospital Dhaka, the surgeries were successful.
After Friday prayers, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited Mirza Abbas at the hospital. During the visit, the medical board briefed the prime minister in detail about his condition.
Mirza Abbas was admitted to the hospital late Wednesday night after he suddenly lost consciousness while drinking water during iftar.
In the 13th national parliamentary election, Mirza Abbas was elected as MP from Dhaka-8, defeating Nasiruddin Patwari, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP).
However, he was unable to attend the inaugural session of parliament due to illness.
His wife, Afroza Abbas, president of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, has sought prayers from the public for his recovery.
