Five Bangladeshis killed in gas cylinder blast in Maldives

Five Bangladeshi nationals were killed and two others seriously injured in a gas cylinder explosion at a workers’ quarter of an under-construction company on Dhigurah Island in the Maldives.

The Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives confirmed the information on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Taj Uddin Islam, Md Sadar Ali, Md Robin Molla, Shafiqul Islam and Md Nurnabi Sarker.

The injured -- Jamal Uddin and Saddam Hossain -- are undergoing treatment at IGM Hospital in Malé.

Officials from the High Commission have contacted the injured workers and are monitoring their condition.

The mission also said steps are being taken to send the bodies of the deceased back to Bangladesh as quickly as possible.
