BNP candidate MA Qayyum has filed a petition with the High Court challenging the result of the 13th parliamentary election in the Dhaka-11 constituency, where NCP Convener Md Nahid Islam has been declared elected.
After a brief hearing, the High Court bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain directed the Election Commission to preserve ballots, result sheets and other relevant election documents from Dhaka-11, Qayyum’s lawyer Advocate Palash Chandra Roy told reporter.
The bench also fixed June 16 for the next hearing of the petition, he added.
Earlier, more than 25 candidates across the country had filed election petitions with the High Court challenging results in various constituencies.
The court accepted the petitions for hearing and ordered the Election Commission to preserve ballots and other necessary election materials related to the concerned constituencies.
