Mamunul Haque, a candidate of the Jamaat alliance for the Dhaka-13 constituency, has filed a petition with the High Court challenging the results of the 13th national parliamentary election.
A single bench of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh headed by Justice Md Zakir Hossain is likely to hear the application on Wednesday.
The seat was won by Bobby Hajjaj, a candidate nominated by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), who is currently serving as a state minister.
Earlier, more than 25 candidates filed petitions with the High Court challenging the results of the 13th parliamentary election.
The court accepted the petitions for hearing and ordered the preservation of necessary materials, including ballots, from the concerned constituencies.
Under Section 49 of the Representation of the People Ordinance, 1972, an election tribunal is constituted in the High Court to hear petitions related to alleged electoral irregularities.
A single bench headed by Justice Md Zakir Hossain has been hearing these petitions.
According to the cause list of the High Court Division, the bench has jurisdiction over election-related applications under the Representation of the People Ordinance, 1972, as amended by the Representation of the People (Amendment) Ordinance, 2001. The bench also hears related rules and applications transferred to it.
