The charge sheet in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi will be submitted within the next 10 days, Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said.
He made the statement on Sunday after a core committee meeting at the Home Ministry.
The home adviser said the trial of the Hadi murder case would be completed within the tenure of the interim government. He also urged all concerned not to give political shelter to fascists, terrorists and criminals.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said the investigation is at its final stage. However, he noted that all details could not be disclosed in the interest of the probe. So far, 11 people have been arrested in connection with the murder, various pieces of evidence have been recovered, and bank accounts linked to the suspects have been frozen, he added.
Earlier in the day, DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam told a press conference that the charge sheet in the same case would be filed by 7 January.
According to investigation findings, the prime accused Faisal Karim Masud and his associate Alamgir fled Dhaka immediately after the killing, travelling by CNG-run auto-rickshaw to Aminbazar before moving to Kalampur in Manikganj. They later reached Haluaghat in Mymensingh by private car as part of a pre-planned escape, and may have crossed the border illegally.
Several accused, including Faisal’s parents, wife, brother-in-law, girlfriend and escape facilitator Nuruzzaman, have already given confessional statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
In addition, three drivers who transported Faisal and Alamgir, as well as the autorickshaw driver who was carrying Sharif Osman Hadi at the time of the attack, have also recorded their statements before court.
