Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman collected his nomination papers on Thursday to contest the 13th parliamentary election from Dhaka-15.
A delegation led by Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair submitted the papers at the Returning Officer’s office in Agargaon, Dhaka, officials said. Dhaka Regional Election Officer and Returning Officer Md Yunus Ali confirmed the submission.
Candidates must submit their nomination papers to the Returning Officer or Assistant Returning Officer by 29 December for the 12 February election. Md Yunus Ali said the papers were submitted on behalf of Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.
Since the election schedule was announced on 11 December, at least a dozen potential candidates, including BNP’s Shafikul Islam Khan Milton, have collected nomination papers from Dhaka-15.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Mawlana Muhammad Mamunul Haque and Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM) Chairman Bobby Hajjaj collected nomination papers from Dhaka-13 on Thursday.
