A series of conspiracies, fabricated cases, and smear campaigns have recently resurfaced against Mohammad Eyakub, the long-serving elected CBA leader of Jamuna Oil Company Limited. According to sources, his strong stance in defending workers’ rights and raising his voice against corruption has repeatedly made him a prime target for rivals.
For years, Eyakub has faced systematic harassment stemming from organizational and official disputes. In the past, his name was falsely implicated in fabricated murder-related cases involving hired killers, which later proved baseless in investigations. On August 5, 2014, while abroad, his name was included in a case filed at Kotwali police station in Chattogram, despite the fact that he was present in Bangladesh at the time. More recently, while he was overseas for medical treatment, attempts were made once again to use his absence to file a case against him.
Repeated allegations of amassing illegal wealth have also been brought against Eyakub. However, no evidence beyond what was already disclosed in his income tax returns has been found. Even claims that Bank Asia’s Agrabad branch issued warnings over suspicious transactions later proved to be rumors. Though he has been portrayed as a “hundreds of crores worth tycoon,” no factual basis supports such claims.
On August 21, 2015, Jamuna Oil’s former CBA leader Iftikhar Kamal Khan filed a sedition case against Eyakub, accusing him of conspiring to overthrow the Awami League government. Eyakub has rejected the allegations, calling the move politically motivated, since the complainant is known to have close ties to the ruling party.
Despite these persistent conspiracies, Eyakub remains confident in his integrity. In his words: “I am repeatedly targeted because I stand by the workers and the truth. They call me a multi-crore owner, but in reality, nothing like that exists. Though I could take legal action against such false propaganda, I prefer not to get entangled in unnecessary complexities.”
Eyakub enjoys strong relations with Jamuna Oil’s workers and staff, and his continuous 11-time electoral victories as CBA leader testify to his popularity. This widespread support has turned him into a formidable obstacle for his opponents, who, in turn, continue their campaigns to tarnish his image.
Ultimately, Eyakub believes he will prevail. As he asserts: “I have committed no wrongdoing. The trust and love of the workers is proof of that. Allah always stands with the oppressed. No one can brand me a criminal; in the end, truth will triumph.”
