Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday to pay his last respects to former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Jaishankar landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:55am aboard a special Indian Air Force flight, an official of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka confirmed.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in a press release on Tuesday that Jaishankar would attend Khaleda Zia’s funeral on behalf of the government and people of India. The announcement said the minister would travel to Dhaka on Wednesday in line with that decision.
The visit marks the first trip to Dhaka by an Indian minister since the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August 2024.
