A 42-year-old housewife was murdered by slitting her throat at her house in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur, police said today.
The deceased was identified as Asma Begum, wife of Malaysian expatriate Saju Mia of Bhabanipur village under the upazila.
Police and locals said the victim had been living in the house alone for a long time, as her only daughter is married and her husband is out of the country.
Saju from Malaysia had been trying to reach Asma over mobile phone since yesterday evening but failed.
Later, he phoned neighbours and asked to enquire, who found her blood-stained body lying on the floor around 12:30am.
Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Pirganj Police Station, said on information, police recovered the body and sent it to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Breaking open the boundary gate of the house, the miscreants stormed into the house and killed her, slitting her throat, he suspected.
An investigation was going on to arrest those involved with the murder, the OC added.
