Police on Friday evening dispersed protesters, who were demanding the announcement of July Charter, from Shahbagh intersection after nearly 32 hours.
In the afternoon, a clash erupted at the crucial transportation point between two groups of protesters, both claiming to be uprising forces.
On group named July Joddha Sangsad blockaded the Shahbagh intersection on Thursday morning demanding the government announce the July Charter and July Declaration. The protesters claimed they were injured in last year’s anti-fascist uprising.
In the evening, police tried to remove their barricade, but a scuffle with the protesters stalled the process, despite public anger.
On Friday afternoon, another group approached the area saying that “a real uprising participant” cannot cause public suffering by blocking roads. Some people impersonating as “uprising warriors” are keeping the Shahbagh intersection blocked, they alleged.
They attempted to express their protest at the blockade, leading to a scuffle with the first group. Later, police intervened and pushed both sides away from the intersection.
