Students of Comilla University-(CoU) brought out a celebratory rally, performed ‘Shukrana Sajdah’ (prostration of gratitude), and distributed sweets on campus following the announcement of a death sentence for ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a case‚ ‘Crimes Against Humanity’ related to the July uprising.
The celebration took place on Monday (17 November) at around 4 pm at the university’s central playground, where students gathered in large numbers to distribute sweets and join the victory procession.
During the rally, participants chanted various slogans, including ‘Khuni Hasinar fasite, mishti khabo ekshathe,’ ‘Khuni Hasina asbe, fasir darite jhulbe,’ and ‘Naraye Takbir, Allahu Akbar.’
In the same case, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was also handed a death sentence, while former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun received a five-year prison term.
Calling the verdict a ‘historic victory,’ students expressed satisfaction and demanded swift execution of what they described as accomplices of fascism.
Sayem Mohayemin from the Department of Information and Communication Technology, said, ‘We have waited a long time for justice. Today’s verdict gives us renewed hope. Punishing the guilty means freeing the nation from disgrace.’
