Two schoolgirls drowned in the Narsunda River at Ashtaka Manikpur village of Gundhar union under Karimganj upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased were class four student, Saifa, 10, daughter of Ratan Mia of Dakshin Ashtaka village and Maymuna, 9, daughter of Ikhlas Mia of the same area, student of class three of Dakshin Ashtaka Government Primary School.
Bothe of them drowned in the river while taking bath after school hours. Locals recovered the bodies after a long search.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Karimganj Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Mahbub Morshed confirmed the matter.
