Two women were stabbed to death and a teenage girl was critically injured in Bogura's Sadar upazila last night.
The deceased were identified as Laili Begum, 70, and her grandson's wife, Habiba Begum, 25. Habiba's sister-in-law, Bonna, 16, was critically injured and admitted to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH).
Sub-Inspector of Bogura Shilimpur (Medical) Police Outpost Gaziul Haque confirmed the matter.
The incident occurred around 8:30pm at Islampur Harigari village.
Quoting family members, Gaziul Haque said that due to previous enmity, a teenage boy from the same area entered the victims' home and began stabbing Bonna indiscriminately. When Habiba tried to save Bonna, she was also stabbed.
The attacker then stabbed Laili Begum when she attempted to rescue Habiba, said the SI.
Both Laili and Habiba died on the spot, police said.
Bonna's uncle Abdus Salam said a local boy had proposed a love affair to Bonna, but she rejected his proposal. "Since then, he was very angry and tonight he stabbed the three victims," he added.
Mostafa Munjur, additional superintendent of police (crime) in Bogura, told, "We have identified the suspect and are trying to detain him."
