A 70-year-old woman was murdered allegedly by her son in Narsingdi's Shibpur last night, police said.
Police recovered her body from her home at Bailabo village of the upazila today, said Md Afzal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibpur Police Station.
Police have arrested the accused son Jaber Hossain, 28.
The victim, Shamsun Nahar, was the wife of late Nurul Haque Master, a former teacher of the government primary school in Bailabo village under Chakradha Union of the upazila.
According to police and locals, her younger son Jaber was known to be a drug addict and frequently mistreated his mother for money to buy narcotics.
It is suspected that on Saturday night, following an argument over money, he killed Shamsun Nahar, they said.
On information, police recovered the body around 9:00am and sent it to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
After confining in a room, Jaber hit his mother with a wooden piece and also strangulated her, OC Afzal said.
He stayed in the same room with the body the entire night, police said.
Police found head injuries and a broken arm on the victim, he said.
