Service activities are being disrupted due to the shortage of doctors in the Lohagara Upazila Health Complex in Chattogram. The outdoor area of the 50-bed complex is empty of regular doctors. About 350,000 people live in Lohagara Upazila. Although doctors are posted here, doctors are easily transferred due to the intervention of higher authorities including the ministry, as a result, vacancies are not easily filled.
The deprivation of medical services does not end for the people. Although there are a total of 30 posts in the complex, including ten posts of junior consultants, there are currently 15 doctors including UHO. Out of the 10 junior consultants, only medicine is in charge.
In addition, there are two doctors in place of 10 emergency specialist doctors including orthopaedics, ENT, gynecology, sex and skin. Although there are 15 people in a total of 30 posts, the activities of all departments are being hampered.
Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Iqbal Hossain said that in addition to the manpower crisis, some of those who are there are performing additional duties in Dhaka, Cox's Bazar and Chattogram. Especially in the outdoor area, there is a rush of service seekers due to the shortage of doctors.
In addition, the residents of the area complain that patients are being deprived of medical services due to the lack of EMO in the emergency department.
In addition, although digital X-ray, ECG, ultrasonogram are essential for accurate diagnosis of diseases, there are no such facilities. The old X-ray, ECG and ultrasono machines have been running for years. In this too, due to the lack of manpower, patients often have to be examined from outside.
Although the Lohagara Upazila Health Complex has been upgraded to 50 beds, the common people are deprived of modern services. Where doctors are recruited at the upazila level, it is like a dream to get services for rural people.
The local residents hope that the government will be sincere in providing healthcare services by filling vacancies in the complex on an urgent basis to meet the basic needs of the people of Lohagara.
