A Tangail court sent a man to jail after he was arrested last night in a case filed over the rape of his 11-year-old daughter in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail.
Tangail Senior Judicial Magistrate Sohel Mrong sent the accused to jail this afternoon after police produced him before the court, said Court Inspector Lutfur Rahman.
The 32-year-old, of Tetulia Dakkhinpara village in Rangpur's Mithapukur upazila, was arrested in Feni Sadar upazila on Thursday night, said police.
Mosharaf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mirzapur Police Station, said the accused, a CNG-driver by profession, lives in a rented house at Gorai area of Mirzapur upazila with his wife and daughter. His wife works in a garment factory in the Gorai area and the daughter is a fifth-grade student at a madrasa.
On April 5, the accused's wife filed a case against him with Mirzapur Police Station under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act-2000.
According to the case statement, when the mother went to the factory for work in the morning of March 27, her husband raped the girl. He also threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone.
After a day or two, she informed her mother about the incident. When the man got to know that his wife found out, he fled home.
OC Mosharaf said after his arrest in Feni, the man was produced before a Tangail court today which sent him to jail.
